Easy Knit Scarf
If you're looking for an easy knit scarf but one that doesn't look like something a beginner made, this is the perfect project.
Materials
- yarn
- #8 knitting needles
- crochet hook - size G
- 3/4" diameter button
- yarn needles (or similar large-eye needle)
Instructions
k = knit
p = purl
Cast on 72 stitches.
Rows 1 thru 8 - Knit each row (Garter stitch).
Row 9 - K 4, k2 together, k across to the last 6 stitches from the end. K 2 together, k 4.
Row 10 - K 4, p across to the last 4 stitches. K 4.
Repeat Rows 9 and 10 for 2 inches, decreasing on knit rows only.
NOTE: Every row throughout will have k4 at both the beginning and end of the row. This creates a garter stitch border all the way around. Also, decreases will only occur on every knit row throughout.
begin pattern rows
Pattern Row 1 - On purl side, k all the way across.
Pattern Row 2 - K 4, * k 2 together, yarn over. Repeat from * across row to last 4 stitches. K 4.
Pattern Rows 3 thru 6 - Repeat Pattern Rows 1 and 2, 2 more times.
Pattern Row 7 - Repeat Pattern Row 1.
end of pattern rows

Repeat Pattern Rows 1 through 7.
Repeat Rows 9 and 10 until it comes to a point.
Last 4 rows - K across each row. On knit side of piece only, k 2 together in the center of the row.
Cut yarn, leaving at least an 8" tail. Thread yarn onto the needle and run the needle through all the remaining stitches. Slide the stitches off the knitting needle. Pull the yarn snug and then fasten off.
ButtonholeTo create a buttonhole, attach yarn to one corner of starting row. Ch 12. Sl st in same space. Fasten off.
Sew the button on the opposite corner (place the center of the button about 1" from the outer edges of the corner).
Pompom
Make a 1-1/2" pompom (or whatever size you like) and attach it to the pointed end.
