Knit Stocking Cap
This is the classic knit stocking cap. It's fairly easy to make and definitely looks great. Perfect for all those cold weather days and nights.
Materials
- 3 ounces 4-ply yarn
- number 8 knitting needles
- large-eyed sewing needle
Instructions
Guage: 6 sts = 1 inch ; 11 rows = 2 inches
Cast on 84 stitches.
Row 1 - * K1, P1. Repeat from * across (rib pattern) until the cuff measures 9 inches.
Top Shaping
Row 1 - * K 2, K 2 together. Repeat from * across (63 stitches).
Row 2 - P across row.
Row 3 - K 1, K 2 together. Repeat from * across (42 stitches).
Row 4 - P across row.
Row 5 - Repeat Row 3 (28 stitches).
Row 6 - P across row.
Row 7 - * K 2 together. Repeat from * across (14 stitches).
Row 8 - P across row.
Cut yarn leaving approximately 14-inch length.
Finishing
Thread the 14-inch length of yarn into the sewing needle and run through all the remaining stitches. Draw up tight and secure firmly. Sew the cap seam together and fasten off.
